Tiger and Charlie Woods at the PNC Championship

Golf's most heartwarming event returns to Orlando in December, and this year the excitement is building early. Golf media reported this week that the PNC Championship may be holding a spot for Tiger Woods and his son Charlie. The family-team event plays December 19 and 20 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. It connects directly to what we do every week at Bronze Tee Junior Golf Club, a junior golf club based in New Haven, Connecticut, where young players learn the game, develop skills, and make friends in a supportive environment that builds confidence on and off the course.

What Is the PNC Championship?

Twenty two-person teams play each year, and every team pairs a major champion with a family member who does not hold a tour card. The format is a two-player scramble: both players hit, the team picks the best ball, and both play from there. It rewards teamwork and conversation, and it is a joy to watch.

The 2026 edition is scheduled for December 19 and 20 at the par-72 Ritz-Carlton Golf Club course in Orlando, Florida. Reports this week say a spot may be waiting for Tiger and Charlie, who practiced together at a junior clinic at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in mid-October. Nothing is official until teams announce, but families are already talking.

A Father-and-Son Story Worth Watching

Charlie was just 11 when he and Tiger first played together in 2020, the youngest competitor in the event's history. They have never won; their best finishes are runner-up spots in 2021, two shots behind John Daly and his son John II, and again in 2024. There is a lesson in all of it. Golf is a game of seasons and years, and watching a father and son keep showing up, keep laughing, and keep trying is a lesson no trophy can match.

What Families Can Learn and Try

The scramble format is the friendliest style of golf there is, and you do not need a championship to try it. A backyard putting contest with a plastic cup, a chipping game with foam balls, or a two-player round at a friendly public course near New Haven all borrow the idea. Mark the dates and watch together, let your child pick a team to cheer for, and ask what shot they would try. Kids golf Connecticut families tell us those conversations are where a love of the game takes root.

A few parent pointers help, too. Keep clubs right-sized to your child's height, keep practice short and playful, and let kids of any age join in, from a four-year-old putting on a carpet lane to a teenager playing a full round. Remind them to stand safely behind a swinging club, wait for the group ahead to move out of range, and leave the green as neat as they found it. These are the same habits we practice at Bronze Tee, where junior golf New Haven families know their kids are learning more than a swing.

Growing the Game at Home

Winter is on its way to Connecticut, and that is no reason to stop. A putting mat by the fireplace, foam balls chipped into a laundry basket, and a closest-to-the-line contest on the rug keep the game alive all season. When December's event airs, your junior golfer will watch a father and son playing together and see their own favorite golf partner sitting right beside them. At Bronze Tee Junior Golf Club we love being part of that story, helping each player build skills, friendships, and confidence one joyful round at a time.

Give your junior golfer a story of their own to tell.
