Nationwide, a record 48.1 million Americans played golf in some form in 2025, with 29.1 million on a course, the most since 2008. The Aspen Institute's Project Play research found youth golf participation up 39 percent since 2019, including 64 percent growth among teens ages 13 to 17.

Golf leaders are paying close attention. First Tee, the national youth development organization, reaches about 2.2 million young people a year, and Youth on Course has grown to 400,000 members who enjoy affordable five-dollar green fees. PGA Jr. League gives kids a team experience with jerseys and cheering teammates. Earlier this year the PGA of America, First Tee, and Youth on Course joined forces behind Project Play's 63X30 initiative, a national goal to keep 63 percent of children playing sports by 2030. For parents, the message is simple: more doors are open for young players than ever before.
